Cricket aplenty in CQ

The CQ Seamers will be back in action this weekend.

By Liam Emerton

There is plenty of cricket action this week in and around the Central Queensland region.

That includes the third round of the Gladstone seniors T20 competition with four games looking to go ahead this weekend.

After winning their opening two games of the season the Calliope Roosters will take on BITS Saints.

The Roosters have been red hot so far and that’s in part to Mitchell Jones who put together an incredible knock of 104 not out on Sunday.

Jones’ century alone would have been enough to defeat Yarella White but combined with his teammates the Calliope side made 147, which was too much for Yarella to handle.

The Saints have split their wins this season, scoring a victory in the first round before falling to Calliope Blue in round two.

The Saints and Roosters will face off in Calliope this weekend with the home side looking to continue their undefeated streak.

Fresh off an in-house derby victory, BITS Coltz will be ready to gallop towards the top of the table.

But they face stiff opposition this weekend when they match up against Yaralla Red.

Speaking of tough competition, The Glen will play their third match of the season when they take on Yaralla White.

Yaralla White is yet to taste victory this season and will have to be on their A-game when they take on a side hungry for another win.

In representative cricket, Gladstone’s best will partner with the rest of Central Queensland this weekend to challenge Mackay-Whitsundays in Rockhampton.

Our Gladstone stars, David Heymer and Harrison Rideout will have their first taste of red-ball cricket when they represent Central Queensland.

Heymer will be deployed as our wicket-keeper as well as one of our most experienced batsmen for the Seamers while Rideout will bring his energy and enthusiasm to our bowling unit.
