The Glen will be forced to wait for their first taste of the 2021/22 Capricorn Challenge.

The Frenchville Sports Club Capricorn Challenge will get underway this weekend, bringing 40-over cricket back to Central Queensland.

After a slightly disappointing T20 campaign, our local side, The Glen, will be watching carefully from the sidelines this week – having drawn the Round-1 bye.

The Gladstone-based cricket squad will not be in action the week due to a representative cricket break between the first and second rounds.

When The Glen finally get to take the field they will face the Rockhampton Brothers, so The Glen will be eagerly awaiting the result of the Fish’s first game.

The Brothers will be taking on their T20 grand final opponents, the Frenchville Falcons, after defeating them in that aforementioned grand final on Saturday afternoon.

That rematch will of course be different with the extension of overs but the match will still certainly be intriguing.

Frenchville came out winners twice from two games played against Rocky last season, however this is a much improved Brothers side.

Gracemere Bulls and Capricorn Coast Parkana will also clash this weekend, neither having completely impressed during the T20 season.

Gracemere won both the sides’ 40-over fixtures last season and will be looking to do the same in the 2021/22 campaign.

In our local Gladstone Cricket Inc Seniors T20 competition, the season began with a bang.

Sunday afternoon saw the Calliope Roosters roll BITS Gold, Yaralla White defeat BITS Coltz and the BITS Saints take down Yaralla Red.

Yaralla White’s Pat Teinaki made a simply stunning 56 not out to help push his side to an opening win of the season.

BITS Saints’ opener Tim Boston made 31 runs from 29 balls in the Saints’ 11.5 over chase down of Yaralla Red’s total.

Coming up this weekend the two undefeated teams, Yaralla White and the Calliope Roosters will clash at the Yaralla Sports Club.

There will be an all-in BITS affair when the BITS Gold and BITS Coltz battle at Boyne Island.

The third BITS team in the competition, BITS Saints, will look to continue their perfect start when they battle Calliope Blue.

And in the final scheduled game The Glen will be facing off with Yarralla Red at Sun Valley Park.

At the end of round one the BITS Saints currently sit at the top of the table while Yaralla White follows close behind.
