The water bird shown in today’s image is a very curious creature for a number of reasons. Most often called a Comb-crested Jacana, is it also known as the Lilytrotter.

That is understandable because it lives its life on floating vegetation like lilies! To help it do this, the Jacana is equipped with very long legs and toes that spread out as it walks on the water’s surface.

Other than the egg laying process, the male alone incubates the eggs and cares for the young, even picking up the chicks under his wings to carry them to safety!
