Birds of Boyne and Tannum with Bob Trask
The Peaceful Dove must be one of the smallest of pigeons with an overall length of less than 20cm.
Other then their size, one distinctive feature they have is the light blue eye patch that extends down the bill.
‘Peaceful’ Dove seems to be a good name for them as they move around quietly feeding mainly on seeds of grasses and sedges. At times however, they will also feed on small insects.
Peaceful Doves build their relatively flimsy nests of twigs, grasses and roots in shrubs and trees.
Both parents feed the young, with what is called ‘crop milk.’ This appears to be contents of the adult’s crop where food is stored prior to digestion.
