This week’s bird is the Burdekin Duck – also called the Rajah Shelduck.
It is found mostly in northern Australia and up into Papua New Guinea.
The Central Queensland region seems to be as far south as they come on the Queensland coast.
They are a large duck that are always found near waterways. Aquatic plants and seeds make up most of their diet.
The pair of birds in this image were seen feeding at a billabong at Boyne Island.
