Wine is a work of art

Some special drops will be on the menu for the Under the Trees art Gala.

I was asked to assist with choosing the appropriate premium wines for the forthcoming: Under The Trees (UTT) Twilight Art Gala Event on 17 September at Jacaranda Drive, Boyne Island.

I immediately suggested using wines from Artwine to the UTT committee. The cellar door complex for Artwine is situated at 72 Bird in Hand Road, Woodside, The Adelaide Hills. The high-gabled architecturally designed pavilion combines a spacious tasting room with an art gallery.

Judy and Glen Kelly built their idea for boutique winery ‘Artwine’ around their love of artworks in tandem with their bold new vineyard plantings in the Clare Valley and the Adelaide Hills.

Combining their two great loves: Art and wine, the Artwine label was established in 2008 after many years of planting the new-emerging alternative varietals. Resulting in today that Artwine has become synonymous as a leader in the production of exceptional alternative varietals.

Artwine was ahead of its time in many of the initial plantings, because they could see this was the future of the Australian wine industry.

These are the four wines selected and I thank Deb Light, the Cellar Door Manager of Artwine for the following tasting notes.

Grumpy Old Man Grenache: An elegant beautifully perfumed wine with lifted aromas of dark fruits, cherry flavours with hints of liquorice and black pepper. Drinking superably right now or if you have the patience will cellar carefully for 10 years. Grenache is a good match to food and will not overpower. Roast lamb, casseroles, and stews and perfect with game.

Temptress 2020 Rose: Montepulciano Rose made from our Clare Valley vineyard. The Temptress has aromas of rosewater, strawberries and berries. The wine is crisp and dry with just a hint of herbs and spice. Perfect with a chicken and salad lunch.

In The Groove 2019: Gruner Veltliner: This delicious dry wine has aromas of citrus notes, nectarine and pineapple with a classic trademark touch of white pepper. The slightly textural palate delivers full mouth fruit of citrus and stone fruit with hints of spice and celery.

Prego 2020 Pinot Grigio: is made to the Italian style, crisp fresh with delicious aromas and enticing palate of nashi pear and white peaches. Bursting with flavour yet crisp and dry. It is happy as an aperitif; matching to many types of cheese, delicious with salmon and salad.

The Artwine perspective is that we believe in surrounding yourself with pieces of art that you love and a glass of wine in hand!

Art is for wine lovers, Art should be at the heart of the table, with wine.

Wine and art are neither elite or mysterious. They are both there for our enjoyment and the happy moments in our lives.

Come and enjoy both starting at the UTT eve Wine Bar, on Friday 17 September.
